Scandinavian Immanuel Lutheran Church was originally founded in 1879 located in Harlan County. The lumber for the church’s construction was hauled by horse from the town of Kearney, Nebraska. The church was constructed mainly by donated labor and costed $500, today would be close to $12,000. The congregation continued to meet there until in 1903 the original church was sold to the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In 1913 the pulpit was donated by Reverend G.S. Larson. A
dining room was also added that year. In 1919 the sculpture of Christ made by Henry Suden was donated. The sculpture weighs nearly 300 lbs and is made from cast cement. After some years of abandonment, the church was moved to the Nebraska Prairie Museum in 1989.
The Lutheran Church is open year around for those wishing to use it for events like weddings, baptisms, or general gatherings. The Church’s main sanctuary will fit 50+ individuals with room to spare. Attached to the main sanctuary is a small gathering space with tables and chairs available. Reserve your date today by calling the museum or following the link at the bottom of this page!
